    Wireless Tech Overload?

An interesting occurrence happened on the way to learning about using my iPad yesterday. In the midst of using at home, the wireless network stopped working, so I lost the connection and proceeded to type in the WEP key Password that Verizon had set up when they installed our Verizon FIOS internet.

My iPad regained it’s rightful ability to function correctly, but I decided to check my desktop computer. All my emails were dead in the water on my main home computer. How frustrating! I’ve never had an issue retrieving email before!

I called tech support for Verizon, and they told me the problem sounded like my iPad was on the same frequency as another wireless device, such as a printer or fax machine. Who knew that one device would bump off another?

While I’m trying to find a solution for that problem, low and behold, my iPad loses its connectivity to the Internet again! As the day wore on, sometimes my wireless internet worked about 50% of the time on my iPad.

I am not a happy person right now!

    Family Tech Help

One-on-One help with my iPad at the Apple Store

I’ve spent an hour or so this morning trying to make a piece of software cooperate, but to no avail.  Time to wait for my smart sons to rescue me from my tech dilemma!  Thank goodness an Apple Store is right around the corner.  Those folks are incredibly patient, and oh-so-knowledgeable regarding all things iPad!

Bento App-Sync it with iPad and your home computer

A few of my favorite apps

I’m learning a few more new features on my iPad today. So far, I downloaded the app for Bento, which I use on my home computer as my client contact database program, and the good news is that it is now synched to my iPad. It wasn’t hard to do. I just needed to make sure my home computer was on with the latest version of Bento, and the the WIFI at home was working, so the iPad could work its magic. Then, with the press of a few buttons and following some directions from the iPad Bento screen, the two programs were synched together as one!

Also, today I just figured out how to add a picture to my wordpress blog. There’s a little photo icon on wordpress which sends you to a url or media library to download a pic. I took this picture at the Apple store with my point and click camera, then uploaded it to the Gallery website on Mobile.me through iPhoto.

    Progressing with iPad

Woohoo! iPad is now connected to my mobile me account and my home computer is synched with it! The email is working because my home WIFI is synched to it. Gmail is working perfectly. If I read an email on my iPad and delete it, it deletes from my home computer as well. So far, my Verizon account appears on my iPad, but doesn’t delete from my home computer when I delete from my iPad. Is that something I’ve done improperly when setting it up? I’ll have to ask tomorrow when I visit the Apple Store for a business session workshop.

I love that my existing contacts from my home computer are now on my iPad because I activated my mobile me account. Because I have the 3G version of the iPad, all my social media accounts are up and operational, so I don’t have to use extra apps, just the original websites that are already familiar to me.

Blogging update: Interesting to note that WordPress works great with my iPad, but Blogspot won’t let me even type on its site from my iPad!

Just when I thought I was making headway…

WiFi is down at home, so all iPad activities on the net are suspended for now. Just when I was trying to hook up my email links…

I decided just to power down the iPad and recharge it. I guess it needed some quiet, thinking time…

After a few hours, I turned the iPad back on, put in our WIFI password, and this time the email info worked…go figure!

Today, my email mission is accomplished. Tomorrow, I am going to try to sync my contact list from my home computer to the iPad. I think I do better with all this new technology if I just take baby steps.

    iPad Frenzy

At an Apple store workshop yesterday for my new iPad several people kept trying to unhand the instructor’s demo iPad as he taught! Wild!  It was a bit unnerving as the instructor was explaining his one-to-one new information with me.   Neither he nor I could believe how at least 10 people throughout the hour were literally reaching across the table, trying to pick up his iPad from under his hand.  They wanted to play with it if he set it down for a second to help me.  At least most of them were quick to apologize when he gently stated he was teaching a session and was using the iPad.

Granted, there is a huge learning curve for me, but the jury is still out as far as I’m concerned as to whether it will suit my needs.  Instead of watching media, I plan to spend more time creating it, through text and pictures.  Naturally, I had to order the added attachment thingie in order to put pictures directly into my iPad, and that will be sent to my home in another couple of weeks.

I’m practicing on the flat glass keyboard, but I seem to keep touching the sensitive screen as I try to type.  I’m spending more time trying to undo what I type!  So much for my 10 grade typing class…my former teacher is probably somewhere rolling her eyes at me!

So…I perservere.  Yesterday I downloaded a few apps, like Hootsuite, Twitter, Facebook, Linked in, and iBooks.  Guess what?  They don’t have as many features as what I’ve already set up on my own computer at home, yet.  Today, my plan is to see if I can incorporate some of the email addresses I have into the iPad.

I’m keeping a positive attitude, but will the iPad with all its cool features be right for me?

Appreciating the Little Things in Life

A wish for a happy day - from me to you!

The happiest of people don’t necessarily
    have the best of everything;
They just make the most of everything they have.

Making Time to Fix My Social Media Connection Tangle

A personal challenge..updating and testing my social media websites info…wishing I had used the same password for everything!

Unraveling the links and figuring out the spiral of connections took several hours, but it now works more efficiently!  It’s good enough for now!  Whew!

Fumbling about as I learn to type on iPad’s touchscreen keyboard

I’ve been practicing with my new iPad, and trying to get used to a flat glass keyboard which sounds like a keyboard, but has no push buttons. The apostrophe is no longer under my right pinkie!  I feel as though I’m learning to type all over again!

    Challenges

I’m learning about the iPad today;  really, really, studying the video tutorials carefully on Apple’s website.  I’m thinking how cool it would be to take one with me to Voice2010 in a few short weeks.  As I wonder about it, I think it would be a great tool to take along with me for blogging.  Hmmm….
